About Joy

Welcome,

I am an author, a speaker, an educator, an encourager, and an influencer. I’ve spent the past four decades listening, learning, and leaning into neurodifferences. This is a topic that impacts ALL of us!

The Formal Version: I’m a global neurodiversity author, speaker and educator. Having taught pre-school through university students, I love learning. I am the wife of a neurodistinct husband and the parent of an autistic son and an ADHD daughter. While grateful for my formal education, my greatest lessons are learned from lived experiences with my students, colleagues, friends, and family. I partner with teachers and leaders across education, business, faith, and community settings to develop environments that welcome and value neuro-differences.

I am the co-author of "The Neurodiversity Connection: An Educator’s Guide to Understanding Differing Neurotypes to Support Student Success”. This book presents practical neuroinclusive practices and strategies that support not only individuals but also builds understanding and strengthens an entire organization.

Recognized as one of the Top 50 Global Neurodiversity Evangelists (2023), I work with schools and organizations around the world. Throughout my travels I am grateful to have developed friendships with talented and insightful individuals, educators and leaders. We share a common belief that there is no “one way” of being, and we value and celebrate all kinds of thinking.

I am committed to helping teachers, leaders, and entire teams understand the strengths and struggles associated with neuro-differences which are often hidden from view. Together we can design, adapt, and transform our communities. The heart of my work is to honor each person’s unique way of being and empower others to do the same.
